Description

Homemade ice cream from scratch is rich, creamy, and incredibly easy to make—no ice cream maker required! With just a few simple ingredients, you can whip up a smooth and flavorful ice cream base, perfect for customizing with your favorite mix-ins. Whether you stick with classic vanilla or add chocolate, fruit, or nuts, this homemade treat is a must-try!

Ingredients

Scale

2 cups heavy cream

1 cup whole milk

¾ cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

A pinch of salt

**Optional Mix-ins**Chocolate chips or cocoa powder
Fresh fruit puree (strawberries, mango, blueberries)
Crushed cookies, brownies, or candy pieces
Nuts or caramel swirls

Instructions

Mix the Base – In a large bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Chill the Mixture – Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight, for enhanced flavor.

No-Churn Method – Pour the mixture into a freezer-safe container. Freeze, stirring vigorously every 30 minutes for 3-4 hours until thick and creamy.

Ice Cream Maker Method – Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Then, freeze for 2-3 hours for a firmer texture.

Add Mix-ins (if using) – Once at soft-serve consistency, fold in any desired mix-ins.

Freeze Until Firm – Transfer to a lidded container and freeze for at least 4 hours before serving.

Notes

Use full-fat dairy for the creamiest texture.

For softer ice cream, let it sit at room temperature for 5-10 minutes before scooping.

For dairy-free ice cream, substitute coconut milk or almond milk and add 1 tablespoon of cornstarch for creaminess.

Store in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 weeks.
